- The Supreme Trophy Awards Gala 2023!
The Lydiard Suite at the hotel is a lovely square room, we give the biggest priority to the ring size to ensure plenty of room for the dogs and then the rest of the room was filled with the stage and our stalls, and the health testing team, who were primed and ready for another busy weekend were certainly kept busy with lots of breeds as well as frenchies.

MORNING SHOWCASE JUDGE REPORT
I would just like to thank the French Bulldog Club of England and the S.T.A.G sub-committee for inviting me to be this year’s surprise judge for the Morning Showcase. Having judged the main classes back in 2019 this was a very special treat to have been asked again to judge this opening part of the day,
and both myself and my husband Barry really enjoyed the whole weekend.
The Saturday night meal was very nice, and all the entertainment and DJ were great.
Everyone looked fabulous in their black and white themed outfits
and the nuns with their blow-up vicar friend were great entertainment in themselves!
Best Regards,
Lilian Poulson

JUDGE'S REPORTS
Wow, what a fabulous event this was. Huge congratulations to the hard working and welcoming committee for organising this prestigious event, covering every aspect in detail. Thank you so much for inviting me to be a part of it. I’m sure my co-judges, Dr Andreas Schemel and Mr Malcom Trevis
enjoyed assessing your dogs as much as I did.
I must also thank the Committee for the wonderful gift presented during the evening function. Such a beautiful and unusual gift, something which will be treasured. It didn’t end there. Such lovely gifts were included in the ‘Judges Pack’ - items which will have daily use and all of them will be a constant reminder of what was a fabulous day and evening.
I last judged Frenchies at Manchester in 2016 which made it all the more exciting, to see and go over your lovely dogs - all new to me and a credit to you all.
It was splitting hairs in some of the classes, such was the quality but as it turned out, the total scores for the winning dogs in each class were quite close, which made our job of deciding the class winners and ultimately BIS, RBIS and BPIS very harmonious; much easier than it might have been ha ha. Huge congratulations to you all, you all went home with the best dog. Thank you all for presenting your dogs for assessment and for accepting the decisions with grace and generous applause.
Judging over, the room was cleared and seamlessly and miraculously, turned into a beautifully decorated dining room, decked out in the function’s theme of a ‘Black and White Ball’ , with almost everyone participating in one way or another. I must mention the “nuns” who, along with their ‘guest’ entered the room with gusto and certainly got the party going.
The food was delicious and once scoffed, we were serenaded by one of the waiters who quickly and effortlessly, got the eager gathering into party mode, which went on long into the night.
All in all, a fabulous event, put together by a hardworking, forward thinking, and dedicated committee of a Club which has the welfare, and future, of this wonderful breed at heart. I hope you are now well recovered from the enormous effort you all put in to arranging such a huge event. You all must be delighted that all those efforts were so well received, thank you for inviting me to be a part of it.
Very best regards,
Joy Bradley

Just to say THANK YOU! I really cannot remember that I have EVER attended a similar event in the UK which has been as well organized as the FBCE S.T.A.G event! Very much on the same level of similar events in the USA or top events in Scandinavia. Only God knows why other breeds can’t do a similarly good job but in the end it all comes down to the extremely hard work of a devoted committee. Well done to you all and it was great fun to see the Frenchie Folk letting their hair down.
With kind regards,
Andreas

I must thank the Committee for the invitation to Judge at the 2023 Gala, it was a privilege to accept. I am always amazed at this event, with the time spent either by the committee of the club and the hotel staff in setting up for the day. At the beginning the hall is laid out with the ring and the trophies with the rosettes as a backdrop which to me is always a welcoming start to the day. It was a pleasure to Judge alongside Joy Bradley and Andreas Schemel. Our disagreements were few, but those that did arise were sorted quickly and with a friendly attitude.
Thank you to the exhibitors for accepting the Judges decisions with a sporting nature.
The overall entry was of a high standard. Lovely heads with good dentition, good eye, and ear placement. Correct shaped necks, solid fronts and strong shoulders were evident, but there were several dogs that had backs without the gentle roach required. It was noticeable that some dogs did not display a tail. And the majority had a tail with 1 vertebra evident, very few had above this.
Movement by and large was good. A few dogs splayed their front paws on the move and one dog showed some lameness while moving. The above comments are my personal view and is not the opinion of all the judges.
Finally, I would say that the overall S.T.A.G class winners,
BIS, Reserve BIS and BPIS were all agreed and awarded by all 3 Judges.
After the show the hotel staff help to clear the hall to set up for the evening with further decorations and finishing touches which are added by the club. Everything was ready for the start of the evening at 7.30, and the addition of a welcome drink as you entered to find your table was a lovely touch,
with the meal this year to me was as good as ever.
If you stayed at the hotel for 1 or 2 nights, I am sure everyone would agree the rooms were clean and comfortable. As I related in my speech on Saturday night, this Gala is the Best Show for French Bulldogs in the country, and I know that the committee have already started to organise the 2024 event at the same venue. Please continue to support the Gala and the Committee so this excellent event can continue to survive.
Best regards,
Malcolm Trevis

The daytime event finished at approx 4.30 and then the room was turned around to be ready for the evening event party. The light up dancefloor, balloons and the amazing dinner tables were all theme matching..not forgetting all the effort that our 120 guests for the evening had made, a vision of black and white in every combination arrived in the hotel bar, a welcome drink then was awaiting them as they flowed into the room. Before taking their seats, we grabbed the opportunity of taking everyone’s photos in their couples, families, friends and groups. We had huge light up S.T.A.G letters which everyone posed and smiled in front of, an opportunity not to be missed. We sat to a delightful 3 course meal, presented well and served very efficiently by the hotel staff, plus one extra bonus waiter for the evening. He was this years entertainment..a secret that no one knew about apart from the hotel maitre d and the DJ. After serving the whole room as one of the waiters he had a catastrophic fall, sending cutlery crashing all over the dancefloor and bringing the room to a silence. He got himself up after many concerned guests went to help, but this of course was all part of the act, which led to him producing a hidden microphone and bursting into song. 5 songs later and after involving the whole room with singing and interaction, there were still guests asking, “how come the waiter started singing”? Well, I think that’s what you call a job well done!
We had envelopes on all the guests table settings, inside were raffle tickets with 24 winning numbers scattered across the room, with some fab prizes as extra thank you’s to everyone and as a further extra as it was our 5th S.T.A.G awards, we had 5 special prizes with Frenchie table lamps and large Frenchie figurines, all finished with black and white ruffle neck collars.
More fun was in the form of the 360-video booth, a twist and upgrade to the normal photo booths we have featured previously. You stood still with up to 3 people on the stand and the camera whizzed around you, the results were a fantastic memory to keep with music, effects and slow-motion moments, if you saw any of the clips on Facebook then you will know exactly what is being described.
What else was there to do then? Well, plenty of drinking and dancing till the early hours with a wonderful DJ, a further shout out must go to our 3 holy sisters who graced many people with their presence along with the Reverend Kevin aka Kev the Rev, a fantastic night was had by all.
